Mexico City became a federal entity in its own right in 2016 (it was previously the Distrito Federal). "CDMX", "Distrito Federal", "Edomex" and "Estado de Mexico" are accepted.

Work around the country instead of alphabetically:

The north, west to east: Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas.
The Pacific coast going south: Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas.
The Gulf and the Yucatán Peninsula: Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, Quintana Roo.
The centre: Durango, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Hidalgo, State of Mexico, Mexico City, Morelos, Tlaxcala, Puebla.

Chihuahua is the largest state; Tlaxcala is the smallest.
